Your Health Privacy
How we protect your child's health information, and your rights under HIPAA and California law. Last updated: November 5, 2026.
Long Beach Pediatric Clinic is part of Cardin HealthCare. We are required by law to protect the privacy of your child's health information, to give you a notice that explains our privacy practices, and to follow that notice.
This page is a short summary. Our full Notice of Privacy Practices explains everything in detail. Ask our front desk for a free paper copy, or call us at (562) 492-9900.
How we use health information
We use and share your child's health information only as the law allows, mainly to:
- Give your child care, and work with other providers, labs and hospitals who care for your child
- Bill and get paid by your health plan
- Run our clinic, for example to check and improve the quality of care
- Meet legal duties, such as public health reporting, vaccine registries and child safety laws
For most other uses, such as marketing, we need your written permission. You can take back your permission at any time in writing.
Your rights
- See and get a copy of your child's health records, on paper or electronically
- Ask us to correct health records you think are wrong or missing information
- Ask for confidential communication, for example a different phone number or address
- Ask us to limit what we use or share (we are not always required to agree)
- Get a list of certain times we shared health information
- Get a paper copy of our Notice of Privacy Practices at any time
- Choose someone to act for you, such as a legal guardian
- Be told if there is a breach of your child's health information
- File a complaint if you feel your rights were not respected
Parents, teens and privacy
As a parent or legal guardian, you can usually see your child's health records and make health decisions for them.
California law lets teens consent to some kinds of care on their own, such as certain mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and substance use services. For that care, the teen controls the records, and parents may not be able to see them without the teen's permission. Our providers will explain this to your family when it applies.
Our website and email
Our website does not store patient health information. Intake forms you download and fill out stay on your device until you bring them to us. Please do not send health information by email or through our contact form, because they are not secure. Learn more on our Website Privacy page.
